NZASA OBJECTIVES

 

The New Zealand Association of Shipping Agents was established in 1970 with the following objectives:

 

  • The association shall review services provided for vessels calling at New Zealand ports, and have an overview of all matters concerning the maritime industry, ship-broking and the waterfront. The association will act for members when required including taking professional advice and making submissions to Government ministers or their departments, port companies, regional and local authorities, or any other organisations whose activities affect their interests or their principals.
  • The association shall promote and advocate for the interests of all members in the shipping industry in New Zealand with a view to the maintenance of a high standard of conduct and practice in the performance of services provided.

 

Membership

 

  • Membership is open to any reputable shipowner, agent , broker or individual engaged in the shipping industry. Such a person or company is eligible after being duly proposed and seconded by two members, and is accepted by the Associations Executive Committee.
  • The membership fee shall be that decided by a majority of members at a General Meeting and shall be in the form of an annual levy on all members at the time of the meeting, the same levy being applicable to members joining subsequently.
  • Membership ceases on receipt by the secretary of a resignation in writing or by expulsion on a unanimous vote of the Executive Committee for non-payment of subscription, misconduct, insolvency or actions prejudicial to the objects of the Association.
